Landec has two proprietary polymer technology platforms: Intelimer Polymers® and Sodium Hyaluronate (“NaHy”). Landec also commercializes its proprietary polymers through its subsidiaries: Apio, Inc., headquartered in Guadalupe, California and Lifecore Biomedical, located in Chaska Minnesota. Apio has become the leader in US fresh-cut specialty packaged vegetables by combining Landec’s proprietary food packaging technology, the strength of two major national brands with the capabilities of a large national food supplier, processor and distributor. Apio continues to invest to grow its core food business, making a 20% equity investment in Windset Farms a leader in hydroponic farming in 2011, and purchasing GreenLine Foods Inc. in April of 2012. Lifecore Biomedical, acquired in 2010, operates Landec’s hyaluronan-based biomaterials business and is principally involved in the development and manufacture of medical products using NaHy that are sold into the ophthalmic, orthopedic and veterinary markets.
